Expedition/Outdoor Education Adventure
(Yr 9s - ages 13-14)
2 day session: Day 1 8.30am - Day 2 3.00pm
This is a two day activity with an overnight stay at an outdoor centre near Sheffield. The aim is to provide young people with the opportunity to take part in a variety of outdoor adventure activities, including: camping, kayaking, climbing and an assault course. The activities will build a spirit of resilience, confidence and independence and will require young people to work as part of a team.

Drama Club: LCA & BGU
(ages 11-14)
1 hour per week for approximately 7 weeks
Have the opportunity to work closely with university students in a university environment! Thirty LCA students will work with 10 BGU students to devise and perform a piece of drama. The activity will culminate in a performance at BGU theatre which will be attended by parents/carers and fellow students from LCA. The activity will develop communication skills, team work skills and creativity. It will give you an insight into the world of theatre and could inspire you to pursue drama elsewhere in the future!

To devise a drama piece, attend drama workshops and complete a drama performance.

Chess Club: Beginner to Brilliant!
(ages 11- 18)
12.55-13.30 - Mondays
Receive chess coaching and play in a league format. Develop your strategic planning and thinking. There will also be a competitive element introduced through the league!
Complete a series of 7 coaching sessions, covering the basics of chess and advancing towards competitive chess.

LCA Singers
(ages 13-18 - Yrs 9-13)
Weekly lunchtime rehearsals and occasional performances.
Use your voice and participate in an extra-curricular ensemble. You will be introduced to a varied repertoire of music from a range of genres including pop, music theatre and film.
Students will practise and perform a variety of music during weekly lunchtime rehearsals and will then perform in Academy concerts and at other events e.g. festivals, local venues. They will be led by the department's Head of Music, Gina Lane.

Literature Society: LCA & BGU
(ages 11-14)
5 week block: 1 hour per week for 4 weeks at LCA, and 3 1-2hr sessions at BGU
- Be introduced to a range of different literary experiences and work in collaboration with BGU students, providing opportunities for exciting new experiences.
- Produce a performance/reading of a piece that you have created during the five weeks.
Summary of Learning Activity
You will be given the opportunity to watch a performance using Victorian lanterns and attend a talk about Victorian literature and historical context. During the five weeks you will attend a cinema viewing of a literary text and afterwards attend a lecture on that particular text. In the literature society at LCA, you will read different texts, discuss your ideas and create pieces inspired by the stimulus text.

Cultural Cuisine
(ages 11-14)
1 hour per week for 6 weeks
This activity aims to broaden your understanding of the world by introducing you to a variety of experiences involving the researching, preparing and tasting of food from other cultures. Initially, you will study the foods and cultures of Spain and France. The activity will be run by the modern foreign lanugages department but will liaise with food technology. As well as encouraging your independence through the preparation of your own food, this activity will also foster team work and an appreciation of cultural diversity and healthy eating.

LCA Trebles
(ages 11-13 - Yrs 7 & 8)
Lunchtime rehearsals and performances. 30 minutes per week during term time.
You will be encouraged to use your voice and participate in an extra-curricular ensemble. You will be introduced to a varied repertoire of music from a range of genres including pop, musical theatre and film.
You will practise and perform a variety of music during weekly lunchtime rehearsals and will then perform in Academy concerts and at other events e.g. festivals, local venues.
Sessions are led by the department's Head of Music Gina Lake.

Djembe
(ages 11-18, Key Stages 3,4 & 5)
30 minutes per week during term time.
Be introduced to music from around the world (in this instance, Africa) and encourage students to participate in an extra-curricular ensemble.
Learn to play a variety of African rhythms on the Djembes as part of an ensemble. They will be taught by the Academy's peripatetic percussion teacher Ed Hemsley.
